Electives for Affiliated Residents

The Yale Department of Internal Medicine is very pleased to offer Yale Affiliated Hospital Medical Residents a variety of elective rotations. During the Academic Year 2008-2009, that begins June 25, 2008, we are offering 28 Medicine Electives at both Yale-New Haven Hospital and the VA Medical Center in West Haven.

Who is eligible to apply for Medicine Electives?

Yale Affiliated Hospital Internal Medicine Residents who will be a PGY2, PGY3 or PGY4 in the 2008-2009 Academic Year and are associated with one of the seven approved Yale Affiliated Hospitals who have contracted with Yale for electives can sign-up for Yale Medicine Electives. The only approved Yale Affiliated Hospitals are Bridgeport Hospital, Danbury Hospital, Greenwich Hospital, Griffin Hospital, Norwalk Hospital, Hospital of Saint Raphael and St. Mary's Hospital. If you are a Yale Affiliated Hospital Intern (PGY1) during the AY 2008-2009, we welcome you to submit applications for Medicine Electives at Yale in January 2009 for the AY 2008-2009.

Who is NOT eligible to sign-up for Medicine Electives?

Fellows of Yale Affiliated Hospitals, and all other residents and interns associated with hospitals that are not affiliated with Yale University School of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine.

When are elective assignments for the new academic year scheduled?

Each year in mid-June we schedule electives for those Yale Affiliated Hospital residents who have submitted completed registration/application packages by the May 15, 2008 deadline. The assigned academic year elective schedules will be released to the Affiliated Hospital Coordinators in mid-June. If you would like to submit an application individual of your hospital’s group submission in May, after initial assignments are made, we suggest that you call Barbara Wanciak prior to filling out all the paperwork to inquire about elective availability at 203-785-6963.
